The Library Board serves in an advisory capacity to Maple Valley City Council on matters regarding the activities and business operations of the Maple Valley Library and act as a liaison between the Maple Valley Library, the City of Maple Valley, and the King County Library System Board of Trustees and staff.
There are five voting members of the Library Advisory Board, one Alternate member, and one youth-at-large member. At least three of the voting members are to be residents of the City. Up to two members may reside within the Maple Valley Library Service Area or own, operate or be employed by business entities located within the Maple Valley Service Area as defined by the King County Library System. The youth-at-large member shall be a junior high or high school student and a resident of the City.

The Library Advisory Board meets every other month on the first Thursday at 7:00 p.m., at the Maple Valley Library. All meetings are open to the public.

City is Seeking Library Advisory Board Volunteers
The City of Maple Valley is recruiting applicants for three appointments to serve on the City’s Library Advisory Board. The City of Maple Valley is recruiting applicants for two regular members, one alternate member and a youth-at-large member to serve on the City’s Library Advisory Board. The regular appointed members will serve a two-year term January 2018 through December 2019. The alternate will serve a three-year term January 2018 through December 2020. The youth-at-large member will serve a one-year term January 2018 through December 2018. The Library Advisory Board serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council and coordinates with the Board of Trustees of the King County Library System. Board activities include making recommendations for library services and proposed facilities, attending and providing input during the King County Library System annual budget hearings, and preparing and presenting an annual report of library operations to the City Council.
The five-member Board meets bimonthly on the first Thursday of the month, at 7:00 p.m., with the first meeting of each year taking place in February. Appointment to the Board shall be made by the Mayor, with confirmation by the City Council. Applicants must be residents of the City of Maple Valley or reside within the Maple Valley Library Service Area or own, operate or be employed by business entities located within the Maple Valley Service Area as defined by the King County Library System.
