Initiative 276 adopted by the voters of the Sate of Washington in 1972 and codified in RCW 42.17.010, declared that it "shall be the public policy of the State of Washington...That, mindful of the right of individuals to privacy and of the desirability of the efficient administration of government, full access to information concerning the conduct of government on every level must be assured as a fundamental and necessary precondition to the sound governance of a free society."
The City of Maple Valley has adopted rules and regulations to carry out the public disclosure requirements of Chapter 42.17 RCW, which are codified in Maple Valley Municipal Code Chapter 2.50.
