Goat Mowing Pond Program

Post Date:04/07/2014

City of Maple Valley Goat Mowing Pond Program is resuming this spring and summer. The City is looking for ways to lower costs and improve water quality. The goat, sheep, and llamas will be used to maintain 29 stormwater ponds [PDF]. Beginning the week of April 7, 2014 goats will be eating vegetation throughout the City. Goats graze in places that mowers cannot access and they eat a wide range of unwanted vegetation. They are also an ideal alternative to the noise and herbicide pollution of other methods of weed control. Before the goat herd arrives, a goat wrangler will come and survey the pond for toxic plants and address any other concerns. We request that you do not feed the goats but enjoy them from behind the fencing.

If you have any questions, please contact Ken Srilofung, SWM/NPDES Program Manager, Public Works Department, at (425) 413-8800 or ken.srilofung@maplevalleywa.gov.
