Please Do Not Feed the Waterfowl

The City asks residents and visitors not to feed the waterfowl at the lakes

Post Date:04/11/2018 3:00 PM

Spring is here and with it is the return of migratory waterfowl to our lakes. The City of Maple Valley asks that all visitors to our lakes NOT feed the ducks, geese, swans, or other waterfowl. Feeding the waterfowl is bad for them and our lakes. Things like bread, crackers, chips, doughnuts, and popcorn offer little nutritional value for the birds. Bread is like “junk food” for the feathered wildlife and too much of it can lead to excessive weight gain, malnutrition, and a host of other problems. Feeding the waterfowl not only negatively impacts the health of the birds, it can negatively impact the health of people as well.
