City of Maple Valley responds to rumored development
Maple Valley, Wash. – September 9, 2019 – Due to the number of inquiries received, the City would like to address the rumors that continue to circulate about a property located just south of SE 271st Place within the Maple Valley City Limits.
Following the launch of a website and online advertisement, residents have expressed concern about plans for a mixed-used development on the property, plans that included multi-family residential. The City would like the public to know that the property owner, developer, and marketing agency did not discuss the proposal with the City, there have been no development meetings about the proposed project, and no permits have been issued.
In 2018, the City Council adopted interim zoning regulations that limit mixed-use development, including apartments, in commercial zones. The property in question is currently zoned CB (Commercial Business) which means multi-family residential development is not allowed. If the developer were to submit an application to develop the property and the proposal included a residential component, the application would be rejected.
City staff has contacted the property developer and marketing agency regarding the proposal that was published online and they have agreed to remove it from their website and other online platforms.
For more information about future development and zoning or if you have any questions, please contact Community Development Manager Matt Torpey at (425) 413-8800 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
