Maple Valley’s Shoreline Master Program Periodic Review & Update

In accordance with the Washington State Shoreline Management Act (SMA), local jurisdictions with shoreline of the state are required to conduct a periodic review of their Shoreline Master Programs (SMP) (WAC 173-26-090).  So conform with the SMA The City of Maple Valley is undertaking a periodic review of its Shoreline Master Program (SMP).

The Washington State Shoreline Management Act (SMA) requires that each SMP be reviewed and revised, if needed, on an eight-year schedule established by the State Legislature.  This review ensures that the City’s SMP stays current with changes in State laws and rules, remains consistent with Maple Valley’s Comprehensive Plan and regulations, and is responsive to changed circumstances, new information, and improved data.

Although the City of Maple Valley had drafted a SMP back in 2006, it was never adopted by City Council.  Instead the City has been using Title 25 from King County by reference.  Through this process the City will be able to adopt its own Shoreline Master Program.
