The City of Maple Valley City Council and staff know the value of volunteers in our community, especially during an emergency. Therefore, the City Council and staff have incorporated an Emergency Worker Program into its emergency preparedness plan.
The Emergency Worker Program is provided for by State law under Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 118-04 and the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 38.52.070. Our program provides coverage for personal injury and damaged property to the volunteer during authorized emergency activities. To be covered, a volunteer must be registered as an Emergency Worker with a county or local jurisdiction within Washington State. We would prefer to have people registered prior to an incident. If/when specialized personnel are needed, which are not already registered, provisions can be made to register them at the scene. While this is possible, every attempt will be made to use volunteers, which are already registered. Our Emergency Workers will provide valuable services to our community through their training, knowledge, skills, and dedication.
