The Cedar Downs and Cedar Downs Village neighborhoods, located in northwest Maple Valley, have been experiencing localized flooding for many years, with complaints dating back to prior to Maple Valley incorporation. Problems with the original design and construction, poor site designs, and modified drainage ditches began a cycle of difficult-to-address drainage problems. Finally, additional private property modifications, filling of drainage ditches, and poor access to and lack of maintenance of stormwater facilities combined so that only a comprehensive look and understanding of all aspects and causes will lead to a comprehensive solution.
The City has hired Parametrix to assist with a comprehensive drainage study of Cedar Downs and Cedar Downs Village to identify opportunities for improving stormwater flow routing to reduce flooding and improve stormwater treatment systems, while avoiding any negative downstream impacts. The City intends to identify and design drainage and water quality improvements in 2020, construct drainage improvements in 2021, and continue construction of water quality improvements over the next several years.
