S-10 Stormwater Pond Water Quality Retrofits

Background:
Stormwater Ponds are used to collect stormwater runoff from the City’s streets, sidewalks, rooftops and other surfaces and are meant to provide an opportunity for oils to be removed sediments to settle out prior to the stormwater either infiltrating into the soil or discharging to a stream or lake. Many of the ponds within the City of Maple Valley were installed prior to the City incorporating and before current stormwater treatment standards, which means they often don’t provide adequate treatment of stormwater before it discharges to the ground or surface waters.

Project information:
In 2020 this project will retrofit 10 stormwater ponds within the City to improve their ability to treat stormwater runoff. The following improvements are proposed:

  • Valley Green Div. II Tract B (Near 23424 SE 239th Ct.) – Lining of first cell to allow better settlement of sediments prior to reaching the infiltration cell. Work will be performed by a contractor hired by the City.
  • Valley Green Div. II Tract C (Near 23843 232nd Ct. SE) – Lining of first cell to allow better settlement of sediments prior to reaching the infiltration cell. Work will be performed by a contractor hired by the City.
  • Valley Green Div. I Tract D (Near 24205 232nd Pl. SE) – Lining of first cell to allow better settlement of sediments prior to reaching the infiltration cell. Work will be performed by a contractor hired by the City.
  • Pleasant Acres Div. 2 Tract A (Near 23611 SE 285th St.) – Lining of first cell to allow better settlement of sediments prior to reaching the infiltration cell, and re-establish slopes and berm. Work will be performed by a contractor hired by the City.
  • Witte Road and SE 272nd St. Pond – Install oil/water separator at last manhole prior to inlet to prevent oil and spills from reaching the pond.  Install access road off of SE 272nd St. Work will be performed by a contractor hired by the City.
  • Sawyer Crest Div. 2 (23855 SE 286th Pl.) – Install oil/water separator at last manhole prior to inlet to prevent oil and spills from reaching the pond. Work will be performed by a contractor hired by the City.
  • Pleasant Acres Div. 2 Tract B (Near 28724 236th Ave SE) – Replace incorrectly installed oil/water separator prior to inlet. Work will be performed by Public Works Maintenance Crews.
  • Belmont Woods Tract B Pond 1 (Near 23845 SE 245th St.) – Improve check dams and berms to allow sediment to settle out prior to reaching the infiltration cell. Work will be performed by Public Works Maintenance Crews.
  • Belmont Woods Tract B Pond 2 (Near 23840 SE 247th Pl.) - Improve check dams and berms to allow sediment to settle out prior to reaching the infiltration cell. Work will be performed by Public Works Maintenance Crews.
  • Shadow Firs Tract A (Near 28512 234th Ct. SE) – Improve check dams and berms to allow sediment to settle out prior to reaching the infiltration cell. Work will be performed by Public Works Maintenance Crews.
